Martin de San Martin - CFO for Hire

Martin de San Martin was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He graduated in 1988 from the University of Buenos Aires with a Master equivalent degree in Accounting and Business Administration. He started his professional career at Banco Rio de la Plata S.A. (today Banco Santander Rio S.A.) where he joined in the capacity of Financial Analyst in1985. During his three year tenure, Martin performed financial analysis on the financial statements of the companies that sought credit financing through the bank and recommended credit limits as well as the applicable rates to service the lines of credit that accounted for the companies' inherent risks.

In 1988, Martin joined Henry V. Lantzy, C.P.A., a small accounting firm in San Francisco, CA where he had his exposure to U.S. public accounting firms, and in 1992, he took the position of Accounting Manager at a Berkeley, CA based, information technology company  (Software Ventures Corporation) a field in which he remained until April 2015.

In 1994, he became the Chief Financial Officer of VideoSoft, Inc., a software development company that latter became, through a merger of operations, a member of ComponentOne, LLC, a larger software development company, leader in the field of development controls.

As the CFO for ComponentOne, a leader in the Microsoft development tools business, Martin was invaluable in the company’s financial success. Martin was a key player behind the merger of two competitive companies, APEX and VideoSoft, in early 2000. He consolidated the operations of the two companies and relocated the headquarters to Pittsburgh to form what is was then known as ComponentOne. In addition to the entities merger, Martin also negotiated the terms of the lease of the company’s premises, restructured and reorganized the operations of the newly formed entity without loss of productivity or continuity and without incurring major relocation costs.

Nearly twelve years later, the company had grown to roughly three times its size and had consistently recognized continued revenue and profit growth.  Martin has laudably represented ComponentOne in his tenure as CFO by strengthening the internal flow of information and the company’s IT infrastructure while expanding revenue-generating capabilities, and maximizing ROI. It is these accomplishments along with his “can do” management style, which blends his creative and leadership abilities to consistently  produce bottom-line results, that makes Martin worthy of distinction, having been honored with the Pittsburgh Business Times' CFO of the year award in 2010.

Beyond his role of CFO,  Martin is considered a trusted liaison between people of various interests and is known for his ability to rally team members around common objectives.  Outside of the company work, Martin has built solid relationships with both third parties and professionals by exemplifying the highest degree of integrity, and currently sits at the Board of Directors of the Pittsburgh Chapter of Financial Executive International in the cpacity of Treasurer.

ComponentOne was acquired by GrapeCity, Inc. in July 2012, where he served as the U.S. Division CFO, until April 2015 when he decided to leave to make himself available to provide value to small and mid-sized organizations as a CFO for hire on a part-time basis or for special projects.  He has since worked with established consulting and law firms as well as start-up technology and robotics companies.
